USA Volleyball announced today the appointment of Heidi Taliaferro as its new General Counsel, effective Monday, October 26, 2026. In this role, Taliaferro will lead USA Volleyball’s legal operations, providing strategic counsel on corporate governance, high-stakes transactions, property and asset management, and organizational policy to support the continuous growth and protection of the national governing body and its athletes.
Taliaferro brings more than 20 years of legal expertise to USA Volleyball. She spent the past seven years as Vice President and Senior Counsel at Healthpeak Properties, a publicly traded S&P 500 company with an approximately $25 billion portfolio. As lead counsel for Healthpeak’s approximately 12-million-square-foot national Life Science portfolio of 141 properties, she advised on more than $2.5 billion in acquisitions and joint ventures, supported a landmark $21 billion merger with Physicians Realty Trust and subsequent integration and internalization of the property management function, and contributed to public-company governance and other enterprise matters. She also co-chaired an employee-led council that launched several initiatives, including company-wide mentorship and community service programs.
Prior to Healthpeak, Taliaferro spent the majority of her legal career in private practice at Allen Matkins, advising institutional investors, lenders, and developers on complex acquisitions, dispositions, developments, financings, joint ventures, and other sophisticated transactions.
In addition to her legal career, Taliaferro brings a deep personal connection to the sport as a former NCAA champion and team captain for the Stanford University women’s volleyball team. She has also demonstrated a strong commitment to service through pro bono advocacy for children’s rights and recently advised USA Volleyball on key real estate matters.
“Joining USA Volleyball as General Counsel at this pivotal moment in the organization’s growth is an extraordinary honor,” said Heidi Taliaferro, General Counsel, USA Volleyball. “Combining my legal background with a lifelong passion for volleyball is a unique privilege. I look forward to partnering with the leadership team, Board, and staff to help USA Volleyball grow responsibly, support the well-being and safety of our athletes, and build strong operational foundations that drive long-term success across every level of our sport.”
“Throughout her career, Heidi has demonstrated exceptional legal judgment, strategic insight, and a proven track record of managing complex, high stakes matters,” said John Speraw, President & CEO of USA Volleyball. “She combines world-class legal acumen with a firsthand connection to our sport as a champion athlete. Her leadership will be invaluable as we continue to advance USA Volleyball’s mission and prepare our organization for sustained success on and off the court as we build toward the 2027 Women’s Volleyball World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.”
