Long Beach, CA, Sept. 28, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Long Beach City College (LBCC) Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Muñoz has been selected to receive the 2026 National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region VI President’s Award, which recognizes a college or university president or chancellor who has demonstrated a sustained commitment to advancing the quality of student life through support of student affairs staff and initiatives.
“Dr. Muñoz’s commitment to student success and to the professionals who support our students every day is something our community has seen firsthand,” said Uduak-Joe Ntuk, LBCC Board of Trustees President. “The Board is proud to see his leadership and impact recognized on a national stage, and to see the work he continues to lead at Long Beach City College receive this recognition.”
Recipients of the President’s Award are recognized for their direct involvement in enhancing the quality of student life, their commitment to involving students and student affairs professionals in institutional governance, and their contributions to the student affairs profession beyond their own campuses.
“This recognition is meaningful to me because it reflects something I care deeply about: creating a college experience where students feel seen, supported and empowered to succeed,” said Muñoz. “I’ve always believed that leadership requires us to listen, remove barriers and create the conditions for students to thrive. I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition from NASPA and to contribute to the important work of advancing student success both at LBCC and across higher education.”
Muñoz will be formally recognized during the 2026 NASPA Western Regional Conference in November.
NASPA is a professional association for the student affairs field, serving more than 15,000 members across all 50 states, 25 countries and eight U.S. territories through professional development, research and resources that support student affairs professionals and the institutions they serve.
